It’s that time of year when we’ve over indulged, but heck, we can indulge some more! Gaining stardom in the much loved Irani cafes of Bombay, Salli Boti is a spicy, sweet and sour dish prepared with chunks of meat, in a thick sauce flavoured with earthy spices, jaggery and vinegar, topped with crispy fried potato sticks. It features on the menus of the handful of remaining Irani cafes of Bombay. One of the best in the city has to be at Britannia & Co, who opened their doors in 1923 to serve the British walas stationed in the Fort area.
Bhendi Bazaar is a salute to the khao gallis of Bombay. To the artisanal way of cooking. Fresh ingredients, cooking from scratch, with care, hands, heart. It was born of two of my biggest passions; good food, and all things Bombay.
